There is no doubt in saying that global
warming and climate change are the result of human activity. Although some areas are still unaffected,
climate change is a global problem. These changes have happened because of a failure
in government policy and a lack of concern for wasted energy by
individuals. The main concern is that
the effects of our action on the climate will be irreversible. It is believed that both government and
individuals should make an effort to find a solution to this problem. This can be done by implementing some policy
and reducing the wastage.
Government must take the prime
responsibility for reducing climate change. Political leaders across the globe,
for instance, need to cooperate so that research into renewable forms of energy
such as wind and solar power is properly funded and the use of coal gas in
power stations is phased out(decommissioned). They must also of course ensure
that regulations against logging are properly enforced. This will result in controlling
deforestation, burning fossil fuels and eventually green house effect. Thus, government should take help from
international bodies to tackle this problem of global warming.
Furthermore, consumers of energy should
also contribute in the process of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Community
projects is a good example of this. In some areas, there are small-scale
community projects to encourage local residents to install solar panels and, in
some places, help pay for them. The transport can also be shared among daily
commuters to work. They can also cycle
to work, have a joint school run with other parents and avoid unnecessary car
journeys. Reducing food wastage is perhaps the way individuals can minimize
their carbon footprint and so help global warming. Likewise, it is important
that people insulate their houses well so that less gas and electricity is
consumed. Thus, these examples illustrate how individuals can contribute much
more towards combating global warming.
After looking at
the above, we can conclude that government and individuals should make a joint
effort to overcome this problem of climate change. It is hoped that we will see
a change in climate in foreseeable future if initiatives are taken at the right
time.
